After you remove the faceplate, you will see a small screw. Remove it gently, and keep it aside, as you will need it later. Dismantle the escutcheon, which is the face plate around the fixture, by simply popping it off the wall.
Step #3: Now take out the stem and check if the threads (circular angled discs on the stem) are corroded or worn out. If they are really bad and beyond repair then take it to the hardware store to find a matching part; or clean-up the stem with an old brush, if it's just dirty.
You can use vinegar to clean up the replacements and then install them. Make sure you let the sealants and grease dry off totally. Turn on the water supply and observe if the water dripping problem still persists. If it does, then the problem is a serious one and should be addressed immediately by a professional.
Once you are done with all this, run the water for a couple of minutes to reaffirm if the joints are fine. Mostly, there would not be any problem.
