Once you replace the valve seat carefully, make sure you replace all the other damaged parts, namely - washer, valve stem, and possibly the faucet handle as well. Make sure you replace washers of both, hot as well as the cold water supplies, as a precautionary measure.
First of all, if you've never fixed a faucet before, do not attempt to accomplish the task all by yourself. Instead of doing any good, you may end up making an even bigger mess. Rely on a professional when it comes to dealing with unknown territories.
In case of a highly stained stainless steel sink, you can use a stainless steel cleanser. Rinse the sink with hot water and then scrub it with a sponge containing the cleanser. Use a soft brush (or toothbrush) to clean the faucet and the areas around it. After scrubbing, wipe the sink and rinse it with water. Make sure that the cleanser is removed completely. Otherwise, it can leave spots. Use a clean cloth or towel to wipe and dry the sink.
