Check if the cartridge is damaged or is attacked by mildew. Consider cleaning the cartridge under running water. If the damage is irreversible may be you will need to replace the entire unit. If it is not, then simply remove the O-ring made of rubber. Remove the old one and fix a new one in its place. This will most probably solve your leaking problems.
Do remember to keep your kitchen layout in mind while purchasing a sink to adorn your kitchen counter. Also, remember to keep in mind the overall effect you want to achieve with the kitchen dcor.
Gently pull the handle towards you to remove it from the valve. The new handle needs to the glided over the faucet's stem.
For good measure, apply a coat of sealant on the threads of the valve while putting it back in place. Also, apply a thin layer of grease or petroleum jelly on the threads of the handle before screwing it back on.
