Stainless steel is a steel alloy with 11% chromium. The chromium in stainless steel forms a film of chromium oxide over the surface of the metal, so that it is not exposed to air and water, that can trigger corrosion. This alloy is used for manufacturing various products, especially cutlery. Stainless steel sinks are among the most commonly used products of this alloy. The main reason for its popularity is its durability, as compared to other materials, like porcelain and cast iron. Stainless steel is rust-resistant, and retains its luster for a longer period. It is perfect for making deeper sinks, as it is strong enough to hold more utensils and can match almost all types of interior decor.
In many cartilage type of faucets the problem could be due to a corroded or dirty cartilage. Turn off the water and put a rag in the drain. Remove the faucet head and keep the parts in order, so that it is easy to place them back in their original places. For faucet removal of the spout, you will have to unscrew the screws underneath it, then pop out the faucet head using a knife or nail filer. Underneath this you will see a long cylindrical object, which is the cartilage. Take it out and examine it. Check whether it can be cleaned and fixed back or is beyond repair and needs to be replaced with a new one. For cartilage faucet repair of a dirty faucet, use the warm water and vinegar method and scrub it clean with a toothbrush. You can buy a replacement part for a new cartilage kitchen faucet from a hardware store. Carry the old parts with you to get the exact replacement parts. Then reinstall all the parts in order and check.
Step #8: Follow the instructions that came with the new faucet on fitting the hot and cold water lines correctly (if you have two different temperature connections). Turn on the water supply and slowly turn the handle(s) till the end.
Before we discuss the cleaning tips of a porcelain sink, let me remind you that this plumbing fixture is prepared by fusing a glass surface with a metal and clay base. The high temperature treatment and raw materials make porcelain enamel a hard unit. But, it is still susceptible to scratches, dents, fractures and stains. Also, remember that it is not acid proof, and exposure to acidic cleaners will wear away the glass surface. This again increases the chances of developing unwanted stains and damages. The following are the steps to clean a porcelain sink.
