Step #3: Now take out the stem and check if the threads (circular angled discs on the stem) are corroded or worn out. If they are really bad and beyond repair then take it to the hardware store to find a matching part; or clean-up the stem with an old brush, if it's just dirty.
There are certain features of soapstone, which make it great to be used as a sink. One of these features is that soapstone is highly heat-resistant. This means that you do not have to worry a bit, even if you keep hot utensils directly in the sink for cleaning. Soapstone can withstand heat to a large extent and thus, would not get damaged at all because of it! Another feature of soapstone is that it does not stain easily. So, any sort of chemicals, acids or ingredients in foods will not be able to spoil the look of a soapstone sink. Now, the best part about having a soapstone sink - soapstone is completely impenetrable. So, you can rest assured that no amount of water will be able to enter it and cause any kind of dampness.
To start with, turn off the water supply to the bathtub or shower. Also, turn the faucet on so that any water present in the pipes drains away.
Finish off by fixing everything back in reverse order. Fix the last thing you dismantled for reassembling the whole faucet ensemble. Again cleaning up the faucet at this point will be a good idea to keep it free of dirt, mildew, and grime. Once you reassemble the unit, test it by turning on the cold and hot water to make sure that there are no leaks.
