Put a rag in the drain to avoid slipping of any part down the drain and turn off the water. Inside most faucets you will find a small screen, which is present at the end of the spout from which the water comes out. If the problem occurs due to a dirty screen, then you might need to do some basic cleaning. Take out the spout by unscrewing it and then use a toothbrush to clean the screen to get rid of any blockage. Then take out the screen and let it soak in a solution of warm water and vinegar for an hour. Again get rid of any sediments using a toothbrush. Dry the spout and reinstall it to the faucet and check.
Step #2: Then take out the screw and pull out the handle; some handles might just pop out after using the nail filer, while some might need to be unscrewed and taken out. Place the screw and handle next to the cap. Make sure you arrange everything in the same order that you are taking them out so that you are able to replace them properly again.
These are more complicated as they comprise numerous parts, therefore making it difficult to exactly point out the cause of leakage. The best option is to replace every part. Remove the handle by unscrewing the connected set screw. With a pair of pliers, take the collar and cap off. There will be a specific tool to remove the faucet cam in the replacement kit. Use it and pull the rotating ball and the cam washer out. Also, remove the O-ring, springs, and inlet seals.
Usually, the faucets are not attached to the sink but are attached in the wall. If the faucet comes in the way of removing the sink, then it will have to be temporarily removed, using a pipe wrench, after you have disconnected the water supply line. If the faucet is attached to the sink, then it will have to be removed and reattached to the new one. In that case, attach the faucet before you put the sink in place.
