Buy the perfect size and shape in lieu for the old one and bring it home. Before fixing it, wrap a double layer of Teflon tape on the stem threads of the new diverter assembly to stop the water leakage.
Step #2: With a wrench, open the faucet and let the extra water pour out of the pipes. Wipe the excess water off an old cloth. Find the screw(s) that keep the faucet in place and see if you will require a flat-head screwdriver or some other screwdriver to open it.
Though a small device, shopping for it can be quite taxing if you have not done it before. Always remember to carry a prototype with you.
Long-term use may result in surface penetration and stains. They are also not that durable, when compared to stainless steel or enamel sinks.
